Pelvic Health Physiotherapist

Katie Stan-Bishop

Chronic pelvic pain may affect everyone differently. For some it may impact on how the muscles and nerves in your pelvis function. The muscles in your pelvis may become tense as a response to other sources of pain and inflammation. This tension may cause muscle spasms for the muscles inside and around your pelvis. These spasms may feel like painful cramps; however, it may also impact on how your bladder and bowel function. Increased muscle tension around your pelvis may also make it difficult to relax your muscles, this can make sexual intercourse, pap smears and using tampons painful. It is not unusual to feel pain or tension in the structures and joints near your pelvis, such as your hips and lower back.
